Olivia Culpo is recounting the difficulties of her pregnancy journey.
A week after the former Miss Universe announced that she and her husband Christian McCaffrey are expecting, she shared a “time capsule” video detailing a blood clot she had at the beginning of her pregnancy.
“I got a subchorionic hematoma, which is basically a blood clot in my uterus, and I was bleeding everywhere,” Olivia said in a Dec. 12 video shared to her TikTok March 18. “I went to the doctor, and it was really exciting to see that there was still a heartbeat. [They] said, ‘You can’t go anywhere. You can’t travel.’”
In addition to being given progesterone in response to the subchorionic hematoma—which occurs when blood collects under the membrane that attaches the pregnant person’s uterine wall to the baby’s amniotic sac, according to the Cleveland Clinic—the model was directed to rest.
“I have been on bed rest for—this is week two,” she continued. “Before that, I had pneumonia. So, I was sick also for two weeks. All in all, I’ve been truly on bed rest for, like, four weeks.”
