Shabana Azmi has always been candid about her personal life and her choices. She shares a healthy relationship with her husband, acclaimed writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar’s first wife, Honey Irani and her children – Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. In an In the Ring with Filmfare interview, the veteran star reflected on her equation with Irani.

Opening up about the reactions to her marriage with Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi shared, “I was this feminist model. And I had done something that was inexplicable because it was like, with everything that I said, I was trampling on another woman’s rights for my own happiness. I think people who followed me as a feminist had every right to feel that. But then, what I figured was that when I started explaining the circumstances in which it had been done, it would lead to much more hurt for the people and the families involved. It was better to keep quiet, and I think that was a very sagacious decision because after all the mud that was flung at me, it died down.”

She further added, “Today, I have such a healthy relationship with Honey that people just won’t believe it. That was possible because no mud was flung there. The credit for that goes to Honey, me and Javed. You’re in a big hurry to explain ki ye jo aap galti samajh rahi hai is ke basis dekhiye. But all three of us refrained from that and it was very wise.”

Shabana Azmi was last seen in the Netflix series Dabba Cartel. The crime thriller saw her star alongside Jyotika, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Gajraj Rao and more. She is set to star in Bun Tikki alongside Zeenat Aman, Abhay Deol, Anjali Anand and more.
