Before Kartik Aaryan, Sushant Singh Rajput Was The Original Choice For Chandu Champion

Almost a year after Chandu Champion hit the big screens, a surprising revelation has come to light — Kartik Aaryan wasn’t the original choice for the role. In a recent interview, actor Bhuvan Arora shared that it was actually the late Sushant Singh Rajput who was initially set to lead the biopic on Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medallist. Arora recalled an encounter with Sushant at the airport, where the latter told him he had acquired the rights to make a film on Petkar’s inspiring life.

Ironically, I did a movie Chandu Champion. Initially, Sushant was supposed to do it. He had the rights to that film. Story rights were also with Sushant. He must have bought it from Murlikant Petkar. Even Murlikant sir said it in one of the interviews,” Arora shared. “I bumped into Sushant at the airport and he told me that he was going to do a film about a paralympic swimmer. We both loved acting and used to talk to each other, we discussed on the film.”

Bhuvan mentioned that Sushant was quite passionate about the project and had even purchased the story rights from Petkar himself. “Obviously, it slipped off my mind. Recently, when Chandu Champion was released, I saw an interview of Murlikant sir in which he said that Sushant was supposed to do this film initially. I don’t know the details of it but ironically, that time I wasn’t there in that movie. Now, I was a part of this film but Sushant wasn’t there,” the actor added.

The film eventually landed in Kartik Aaryan’s lap after Sushant’s untimely death in 2020, and was directed by Kabir Khan. Chandu Champion released in theatres on June 14, 2024, and despite being a much-anticipated biopic, it received a mix of reactions from audiences and critics alike. The film aimed to highlight the remarkable journey of Murlikant Petkar, a man who broke barriers and brought glory to the country through sheer determination and grit.

Meanwhile, the memory of Sushant Singh Rajput still lingers strongly in the hearts of his fans and loved ones. His sudden death in June 2020 continues to spark debates, with some believing it was suicide while others suspect foul play. His family, especially his sisters, continue to seek justice, keeping his legacy and unanswered questions alive.
