
In an exclusive interview, Kaushik reflected on his time working on Mr India and the unexpected success of the film. He shared, “When we began making Mr India (1987), we didn’t realise how iconic it would turn out to be or its ability to entertain generations. The story is fantastical yet emotional.” Kaushik also spoke about how the film’s popularity caught everyone by surprise, noting, “I never imagined that the film would have such an impact. The blend of comedy, drama, and fantasy was something new for the audience, and it was received with so much love.” As Calendar, Kaushik brought warmth and humour to the film, working alongside Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri. In addition to his acting, he also served as the associate director, a role that allowed him to shape the creative vision of the film. He expressed gratitude for this opportunity, saying, “Boney Kapoor was kind enough to offer me a salary and the role of associate director. My name appeared first in the credits, and I was truly grateful for that.”

Kaushik also spoke fondly of his bond with director Shekhar Kapur, whom he had worked with on Masoom (1983). Reflecting on their professional relationship, he said, “From the third assistant I’d become family for him.” Their connection was a key factor in the success of Mr India. Kaushik also acknowledged the support of producer Boney Kapoor, saying, “Boney Kapoor had faith in me and believed that I could contribute not just as an actor but also behind the scenes. It was a collaborative effort, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”

Satish Kaushik’s career extended far beyond Mr India, with significant roles in films like Ram Lakhan, Saajan Chale Sasural, and Deewana Mastana. A proud alumnus of the National School of Drama, Kaushik’s talent and passion for filmmaking were undeniable. Although he passed away on March 9, 2023, his legacy continues to live on. His immense contributions to Indian cinema ensure that he will always be remembered as one of the industry’s most beloved and respected figures.
