The massacre took place on April 13, 1919, when thousands of unarmed Indians gathered at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar to protest the Rowlatt Act and demand the release of leaders Dr. Satyapal and Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew. Without any warning, General Reginald Dyer ordered his troops to open fire. India’s Ministry of Culture reports that 1,650 rounds were fired, and the shooting stopped only when the ammunition ran out. While British records put the death toll at 291, Indian sources estimate over 500 casualties. The blocked exits of the garden left many with no way to escape, and the massacre became a turning point in India’s struggle for independence.

Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film follows the success of the 2019 hit Kesari, but shifts the action from the battlefield to the courtroom. R. Madhavan delivers a strong performance as British lawyer Neville McKinley, while Ananya Panday impresses with a grounded and emotionally nuanced portrayal of journalist Dilreet Gill. The film blends historical events with powerful performances, offering a gripping story of courage, justice, and resistance.
