The makers have released an intriguing teaser for the upcoming movie Devi Chowdhurani. It stars Prosenjit and Srabanti Chatterjee in leading roles. It is directed by Subhrajit Mitra and produced by Aniruddha Dasgupta and Aparna Dasgupta. The movie has been adapted from a Bengali novel written by the famous author Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1884. It is about an innocent young girl turning into a powerful bandit queen.
Going by certain accounts where Pathak has been described as six feet tall with red eyes, Prosenjit tried to bring in those features in his portrayal. “But there is no documentary evidence. We went by our own interpretation of his character, according to our perception,” the actor noted.
Recalling the 1974 movie Debi Chowdhurani, where Suchitra Sen played the lead role, while Basanta Chowdhury starred Bhabani Pathak, Prosenjit noted that he “did not go by any baggage.”
Srabanti, on the other hand, wanted to play a character as powerful as Devi Chowdhurani. During another interview, she said, “I have not been bothered at all. I felt happy instead because I manifested a character like this! I always wanted to do something like this, to play a warrior on-screen.”
Alongside Prosenjit and Srabanti, the cast also includes Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Arjun Chakrabarty, Bibriti Chatterjee, Kinjal Nanda, Darshana Banik, Alexx O’Nell and Carl Harte in leading roles.
