Devi Chowdhurani Teaser: Prosenjit And Srabanti Chatterjee Form An Undefeated Duo

The makers have released an intriguing teaser for the upcoming movie Devi Chowdhurani. It stars Prosenjit and Srabanti Chatterjee in leading roles. It is directed by Subhrajit Mitra and produced by Aniruddha Dasgupta and Aparna Dasgupta. The movie has been adapted from a Bengali novel written by the famous author Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1884. It is about an innocent young girl turning into a powerful bandit queen.

The 55-seconds teaser feature Prosenjit and Srabanti in their characters Bhavanicharan Pathak and Prafullamukhi. Prosenjit acts as Srabanti’s guru, who teaches her the ways of becoming confident and powerful. During an interview, Prosenjit revealed that he underwent massive training to prepare for his role. He noted, “I prepared for the role for over one year and perfected stick fighting, sword fighting apart from other martial arts… There is no known available photo or image of Bhabani Pathak. Only some imaginary sketches accompanying the published novel, the posters of previous films on the historic novel and the accompanying myth.”

Going by certain accounts where Pathak has been described as six feet tall with red eyes, Prosenjit tried to bring in those features in his portrayal. “But there is no documentary evidence. We went by our own interpretation of his character, according to our perception,” the actor noted.

Recalling the 1974 movie Debi Chowdhurani, where Suchitra Sen played the lead role, while Basanta Chowdhury starred Bhabani Pathak, Prosenjit noted that he “did not go by any baggage.”

Srabanti, on the other hand, wanted to play a character as powerful as Devi Chowdhurani. During another interview, she said, “I have not been bothered at all. I felt happy instead because I manifested a character like this! I always wanted to do something like this, to play a warrior on-screen.”

Alongside Prosenjit and Srabanti, the cast also includes Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Arjun Chakrabarty, Bibriti Chatterjee, Kinjal Nanda, Darshana Banik, Alexx O’Nell and Carl Harte in leading roles.
