Exclusive : Imran Khan Talks About Keeping His Distance From The Industry

Imran Khan recently joined Filmfare’s Editor-in-Chief, Jitesh Pillaai, for an honest conversation as part of In The Ring With Filmfare. Talking about his time in the industry, Imran reflected on the changing dynamics of professional relationships. Some people, he said, remained co-workers despite friendly interactions, while others—especially certain directors—turned into genuine friends who stood by him over the years.

Speaking about this, he shared, “I did distance myself quite a bit. While working, sometimes you form very close bonds with some people, some people are your co-workers first and you are friendly with them, but they don’t become solid friends. Those people who became friends who were and continue to be there, are a lot of directors I worked with. A lot of my industry friends who remain exactly the same even if I’m not doing their film.”

Imran also got candid about the pressure of comparison during his peak years, especially when it came to his contemporaries. He said, “Ranbir is a fine actor. Anyone else who was my peer and contemporary at that time, I had a sense of not being able to measure up in any way. I didn’t think I was as good a dancer as someone, I didn’t think I was as muscular as someone. Somewhere in my head, I was always playing catch up.”

He also looked back at the beginning of his acting journey. Imran made his debut in 2008 with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, directed by Abbas Tyrewala. Before that, audiences had already seen him as a child actor in his uncle Aamir Khan’s films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. But it was Jaane Tu… that truly gave him a place of his own in the industry.

In The Ring With Filmfare continues to bring out the most personal and unfiltered side of celebrities, offering fans a deeper connection to the stars they admire.
