Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan headlined the much-anticipated opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 last night at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The grand opening ceremony marked the start of another thrilling season with unforgettable performances. One such moment occurred when Shah Rukh Khan shared the stage with cricket legend Virat Kohli. And the stadium erupted in cheers.

At the IPL 2025 opening, Shah Rukh introduced Virat Kohli as the “greatest of all time,” reflecting on the cricketer’s association with IPL since 2008. Kohli has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore throughout his IPL career. SRK called him the “OG Gen Old.” The two then danced to Pathaan’s song Jhoome Jo Pathaan.

It’s safe to say that Virat nailed the hook step. SRK and Virat’s banter and chemistry was the highlight of the evening.
Heaping praise on Kohli, Shah Rukh Khan shared, “Virat is the only player who has played for just one team since the beginning of the IPL in 2008, RCB. He’s the OG Gen Old of the IPL. He’s such a big inspiration; I even used to stay awake late at night during his Under-19 days to watch him bat. I’m fortunate to be alongside him. Do you think the IPL will continue to be so wonderful, and the generation gold will continue to shine as you do and the others? Or will the generation bold start making a bigger and faster impact on this game?”

To this, Kohli replied, “The bold generation is coming up very strongly, but the old generation is still here, ready to make an impact, still ready to play the game, and hopefully keep creating more memories for all these lovely fans for years to come.”

The line-up of performers at the IPL opening ceremony included Shreya Ghoshal, Disha Patani and Karan Aujla.
